Share your Thanksgiving Indulgences and Win!
November 23, 2009
In the next couple of days we will each consume some 3000-6000 calories in one sitting celebrating all for which we are Thankful, which is no doubt far more calories than I am supposed to eat in three days, let alone in a few hours. Yet, I can’t wait! I love Thanksgiving and all that it stands for, especially the abundance of very good food. And as I celebrate with family and friends, I know I will slip and indulge a little too much while trying to be a healthy hedonist – enjoying life’s fabulous indulgences with balance. This may sound odd coming from a dessert company, but that is truly our goal: satisfying pleasures with moderation. And yes, sometimes we’ll lose balance too…another helping of stuffing or perhaps a second slice of pie…it happens.
So, we want to hear how you navigate the Thanksgiving meal and coming holidays – how are you a healthy hedonist? Or how did you try to be a healthy hedonist and what temptation led you to have your cake and eat it too? Or maybe you reject this whole idea all together and Thanksgiving truly is your day to stuff the bird and yourself silly. We want to hear it all. Send us your stories, recipes, photos, and tell us how you celebrate food, family, and all there is to be thankful for while intent on a healthy lifestyle and enjoying life’s pleasures.
We’ll pick our favorite and announce the winner in the December “Dose of Culture” newsletter. You could win three pints of your favorite flavors of Sweet Scoops. And be crowned the first Healthy Hedonist winner. This may call for a trophy.

When I was little, the Thanksgiving meal was all about abundance. Today, it’s all about flavor and quality ingredients. I pay attention to portion size and I try to pace myself, but if something tastes wonderful in my mouth, I don’t hesitate to indulge just a little more, just on that day.
However, I place no limits on feeling fortunate to have food, and to have friends and family to share my blessings with me. I’ve started sending out emails, in addition to phone calls, telling people how thankful I am that they are part of my life. I try to do this other times of the year, too, because I have so much to be thankful for.
